On May 19th, the ‘HANCOM: THE SHIFT Into Agentic OS’ press conference was held at the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul in Yeouido, Seoul. This conference was organized to officially declare Hancom’s transition into a ‘Sovereign Agentic OS’ company and to disclose the results of its AI transformation efforts to date.

In particular, more than 200 people attended the conference, including reporters from broadcasting stations, major daily newspapers, and online media, as well as analysts and institutional investors. As AI transformation emerges as a major topic across all industries, the high level of interest and expectation regarding Hancom’s AI business direction was evident through the many attendees at the scene. 👏

A New Paradigm for AI: What is ‘Sovereign Agentic OS’?

'Sovereign Agentic OS' is an integrated AI agent operating system that connects and controls an organization's internal data, external AI models, existing business systems, and permission structures within a single secure environment.

The first thing Hancom pointed out at the conference was the market trend. The AI market is currently moving in two directions simultaneously.

• Agenticization: AI is evolving beyond a tool that simply answers questions to one that understands user goals, plans and executes necessary tasks on its own, and collaborates with multiple agents to produce results. At the center of this change is the ‘Agentic OS’ that manages and coordinates multiple agents.

• Sovereignty: Data sovereignty, which was previously at a recommendation level, is becoming mandatory through laws and regulations. The EU AI Act has been implemented in stages since it took effect in August 2024, and in cases of regulatory violation, fines of 35 million euros (approx. 60.1 billion KRW) or up to 7% of total global annual turnover can be imposed.

The point where these two trends meet is the Sovereign Agentic OS. Demand is expanding rapidly, particularly in public sectors, defense, finance, and healthcare, where it is difficult to delegate data to the clouds of big tech companies. According to Hancom’s analysis of market research data, the serviceable obtainable market for Sovereign Agentic OS is estimated to be between $7 billion and $10 billion (approx. 10 trillion to 14 trillion KRW) by 2030.

Hancom’s transition into an AI company is not a strategy prepared in a short period, but has been carried out step-by-step according to a four-stage roadmap from 2022 to 2026.

① Hancom’s ‘Sovereign Agentic OS’ Competitiveness: Core Data Technology Accumulated over 36 Years

The core of Hancom’s ‘Sovereign Agentic OS’ competitiveness lies in its original data technology accumulated over 36 years. Based on industry-leading document parsing and unstructured data processing capabilities, Hancom possesses the original technology to convert all documents in the world into data formats that AI can read.

A representative example is the Open Data Loader (ODL). ODL V2.0, released in March this year, ranked first in all four major benchmark categories and reached the number one spot on GitHub Trending within two months of its release. This achievement demonstrates that Hancom’s long-accumulated document processing technology is recognized for its competitiveness in the global AI ecosystem.

In addition, Hancom presented AX (AI Transformation) clinical data accumulated during the actual AI transition process, 200,000 customer assets across core industries such as public, finance, and education, and an open AX standard architecture that is not dependent on specific LLMs as core competencies for targeting the ‘Sovereign Agentic OS’ market.

② Open Sourcing of Open Data Loader (ODL), Global AI Ecosystem Expansion, and Entry into Europe

Hancom has released Open Data Loader (ODL) as open source for anyone to use freely. This is a strategic choice to become an ‘open ecosystem standard provider’ that develops AI technology together with developers worldwide, rather than building a closed system. Through this, Hancom’s technology is rapidly spreading across the global AI ecosystem.

And the first global target is Europe. 🌍

Europe is a region where data protection and AI regulations are strongly mandated by law, accounting for the world’s largest share (34.2%) of the sovereign AI infrastructure market. Based on this market potential, Hancom disclosed the status of MOU progress with three local European partners.

③ ‘Haansoft (Hangul and Computer) → HANCOM’: First Corporate Name Change in 36 Years

Hancom has changed its corporate name from ‘Hangul and Computer,’ which it had maintained for 36 years since 1989, to ‘HANCOM.’ This change is not just a simple name replacement but signifies the expansion of the areas Hancom covers:

• Document → Data
• Computer → AI Agent
• Korea → Global

In line with its strategy to target the global AI market, Hancom is making a fresh start with the ‘HANCOM’ brand, which is intuitively recognizable in overseas markets.

④ Discontinuation of Yearly Version Releases for Hancom Office, Transition to a ‘Living AI Platform’

Finally, this is a change that users of ‘Hancom Office’ will feel most significantly. Hancom will end its policy of regular yearly releases, with ‘Hancom Office 2024’ being the last version.

This decision was made so that customers no longer have to wait for new version releases and can immediately experience advanced AI technology and new features. Hancom Office will be operated as a ‘living AI platform’ where AI functions and agent-based technologies are continuously connected and expanded, moving beyond a simple document creation tool.

Q. How does ‘Sovereign Agentic OS’ differ from existing AI platforms or business AI solutions?

While existing AI solutions typically involve exposing specific technologies to the outside and connecting them via APIs, the biggest difference is that an Agentic OS is a single integrated platform that operates on top of those technologies. As such, Hancom’s Agentic OS is structured so that clients can directly introduce AI agents into their work and create efficiency. By opening up standardized technology, we aim for an ecosystem where many companies can collaborate together on the Agentic OS.

Q. What is the scale of the research personnel for ‘Sovereign Agentic OS’ and what are the release plans?

Currently, 30% of the company’s total workforce is focused on the development and planning of the Agentic OS. In fact, most of Hancom’s personnel are moving toward the Agentic OS ecosystem. Regarding the release schedule, we plan to first introduce a beta version in June 2026, followed by a version for verification in actual customer environments in the second half of the year. After going through PoC (Proof of Concept), we are aiming for an official release in the first half of 2027.
